Guest blogger entry - PJ Rigor on the PBA Ambassador's Cup 2007

We Filipinos give importance to sports. When it comes to sports, we are always ready. Rugby is the Kiwis' favorite sport, while the Pinoys absolutely love basketball. Wherever Filipinos go, there's basketball (hahanap hanapin pa din diba?).

Last June 2-3, 2007 was the Queen's Birthday weekend. The Pinoy Basketball sa Auckland(PBA) hosted the first Ambassador's Cup. Most of the North Islanders participated in this event. The cities were Auckland, Hamilton, Rotorua, Wellington and Palmerston North. The competition consists of two divisions : Mens division and Under-17 Juniors division.

The Pinoy Hamiltonians were excited in this event. We entered a Mens team coached by WFA Chairperson, Jun Valencia, and a newly-formed Under-17 Juniors team coached by Tony De Vega. The Hamilton players showed good sportmanship and some basketball skills. The opposition teams also did a good job.

We thank the Hamilton supporters who took part in this event. They gave their full support to the Hamilton teams. We also thank the WFA officials for making this happen. This event also serves as a get together of our Hamilton family. We had enjoyed this event which was a happy day for all of us.

We are looking forward to the next Filipino competition in Rotorua. Come and join us at the next labour weekend to have fun and to support our Hamilton players.
