WFA Sports' update....

We have all been busy, we hardly had the time to update everyone with what's been happening in our WFA sports' arena....

* WFA Men's basketball team for Rotorua 2007 - Tryouts are on-going at Uni Rec (Gate 1 - Knighton Road) on Fridays from 6pm sharp. Contact Rene Gorteza or Rommel Borda

* WFA Badminton - we had two male entries at the local Hamilton ethnic tournament. They played last Saturday, I believe it was a one-win, one-loss accomplished. Great efforts for Randy and Simbad! Games are held every Saturday at Dey St. There's also a regular practise at Dey St Badminton hall, contact Jenny Turingan for more info.

* WFA Volleyball (Mixed) - Our team has been playing for awhile at (another local) winter Social league and they have been playing awesome(ly)! considering its a newly-formed team! We currently have a 3-0 (win-loss)!! Go Pinoy!! Games are at Te Rapa Sportsdome, Church St (745pm Mondays). Contact Aljun Gorteza or Noel Magsino

We are still looking for players on this roster. One has to be under-17 yrs old on Oct 20-21 of this year. Strict compliance required. Contact Tony de Vega, Aljun Gorteza or PJ Regor

* WFA Ten-Pin Bowling - our all female team has been practising continuously at Sky Casino, Victoria St. They are still looking for their "thorn amongst the roses". If you are keen and averaging 200-above/ per game (hee!), they'd like to hear from you! Contact Jo McEwen or Mel Hanley

* WFA Darts - the "boys" have been competing at two local tournaments, Thursdays at Ohaupo Club and Fridays at Hamilton Workingmen's, Frankton. There's a $4-entry fee and if you win, you get to take home a meat pack! If you are interested, contact Mark Duran or Karl Turingan. Melo, Noel M and Jett are also in this bull's-eye team. :)

* WFA Tennis - Leon and the rest of the boys would like you to join them at their regular practises at the University (open) tennis courts, Silverdale Road. Contact Aljun G or Jenny T.

Whooa! Are we full-on or what, I bet I have missed some other WFA sports' activities happening at the moment...but I'm sure our ever-hardworking WFA Sports' co-ordinators (Rene G and Aljun) will do the addendum to this....

To all yous...maraming salamat and keep it up! Be proud you're Pinoy!

Filipino Mass @ St. Mary's Cathedral, Hamilton

In continuing the beautiful tradition of the Filipino Mass, Father Frank (and the Hamilton Parish) in association with the Hamilton Filipino Community invites everyone to the first Filipino Mass at the St. Mary's Cathedral in Hamilton. This will be on the 29th of July (yes, that's a Sunday) from 6-7pm. This is to invite new Filipinos to the Hamilton Parish.

We all know how hard it is to make friends and establish one's self in a new country, especially one as different to our own as New Zealand. But if there's one thing most Filipinos have in common with some Kiwis, it is being Christian and Catholic. Most countries in the western world have at least one Catholic church in every town, Hamilton is no exception to the rule. And were else would you find other Filipinos, especially on Sundays, but church.

So if you're wanting to fulfill your Catholic obligations on the 29th, why not do it at St. Mary's from 6-7pm. Oh and did I mention the free feed after mass? Oo, misa na may pakain pa! Dinner and get-together after mass at the church hall. Also, offertory is purely voluntary and if you want to present gifts to the priest during mass, you are welcome to do so, but only one representative per family. Talk to the organizers about this one before the mass or if you have any other burning questions, ring Marian Borda (0211227216), or email us, or even leave a comment/question at the end and we'll find someone who can answer your questions. See y'all there.

Learning Tagalog and Philippine Cuisine

Do you ever wonder what "mahal kita" means?

Do you ever wonder why you get giggles from your Pinoy friends when you mention the Maori word for "hill"?

Do you feel alienated when your Philippine-grown friends start talking and you barely understand? (...and you rely on facial expressions and body language)

Do you want to know the recipe of that semi-sweet garlic-y pork/chicken called "adobo"?

Do you want to impress your wives/husbands/parents/family/friends with a home cooked Pinoy meal?

If you answer YES to any of the questions, sign up now for the
