Christmas Parade... a success!
Yesterday's Santa Parade was another successful event for the Pinoys. The crowd cheered as our float, the "bahay kubo" with matching "parols", passed by. There were several pinoys who braved the rains to give moral support.
Acknowledgements to the following . . .
THE PAROL TEAM

Weeks before the event, volunteers started making these Filipino Christmas Lanterns. Thanks to Ivy, Cris, Kim, Mark, and to those not in the picture who equally gave their share : Jeff, Bernie, Vhe, Gerie, Nina. Special thanks to MANG GEORGE and ERWIN who made all the parol frames and ATE CHONA DE VEGA who shared her talent and wrapped 5 big parols!!! I can't imagine finishing the whole thing as it took me 3 hours to make 1 small lantern!
THE BAHAY KUBO TEAM

MANG GEORGE, again, shared his skills as he built and designed the kubo from scratch. From MAYUMI's idea of a bahay-kubo float, it would not have been possible without some scrap aluminum from BLANCA's basement, bamboo from COACH JUN Valencia ('di sana nakalbo and bamboo forest mo! hehe), and palm leaves from TOTO. Thanks to the people who helped put the leaves to make it native...IVY, ERWIN, THEODY, and MAYUMI. That was 6-7 hours of voluntary hard work!!! Also thank you to Nanay, Mang George's wife, who accommodated us, to ALJUN, RENE, MEME, and MARK who came and helped clean up.
THE PARADE

Not even weather can dampen the spirits of those who rode the float and marched :
- RENE, our driver, with GLADYS riding in the truck
- representatives from HAMILTON FILIPINO CHORALE : CECIL, SUZANE, NICOLE, KATRINA, ALJUN, MYLA, TITA NENG (marching in her "bakya"). Due to technical problems, the supposed "karoling" didn't push through but your presence, nice costumes and poised marching complimented our float.
- the kids who didn't complain even if they got wet (JILLY, JUVILYN, PEBBLES, GABRIEL, CATHERINE, KIMBERLY)
- the adults riding the float to ensure the kids' safety (CRIS, CECIL, CORAZON, JUN, HAROLD)
- the marshalls standing on the side (J-SER, BOY and KUYA NELSON)
Special Thanks to :
- TRANSFIELD BOYS (EDWARD, J-SER, WOWIE, BOY, RONNIE) who were there to do some last minute adjustments to the float to ensure safety. Truck's sides were missing but it was a blessing in disguise as it turned out looking more native with the bamboo fencing :)
- the Macho men who helped carry the kubo to the truck (DAN, THEODY, ERWIN, KARL)
- IVY and KIM who helped with the float decor. ATE MYRNA's christmas garland
created a nice effect.
- clean up committee (GLADYS, MARK, CECIL, KARL, HAROLD)
Once again, I felt the Bayanihan spirit all throughout from preparations to the actual event.
To all the people who made this event possible....
MARAMING MARAMING SALAMAT!
